La Puerta Verde Restaurante, Haría

Javier and Stuart always dreamed of opening their own restaurant and didn’t hesitate when they found that La Puerta Verde was for sale in Haría. Three weeks later in September 2009 their dream came true when they collected the keys from Thomas the previous owner.

Before Haría, Stuart worked at the Tapas Tree in Puerto del Carmen, the couple were no strangers to the North of the island heading for the tiny village of Ye at the weekends.

Since taking over the restaurant they have had some fun events such as Halloween when they decorated the bar and handed out bags of sweets and Carnival when a bus load of customers in fancy dress costume travelled over from Tías. There are plans for a Eurovision night and a TV outside for the world cup matches.

For those of you who knew the restaurant before you’ll be pleased to know that the popular special of the Gambas Asiático / Asian style prawns are still on the menu, Thomas left the recipe of his specialty with the restaurant!

The other really good news is that the opening hours have been extended to 6 days per week:

Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday 11:00 – 22:00 (last food order 9pm)

Wednesday 15:00 – 22:00

La Puerta Verde is easy to find, situated on the main road of Calle Fajardo with off road parking. The boys are gradually adding their own menu items, there is still a specials board, tapas and main menu and Stuart’s mum makes some fabulous puddings. The new favourite dish is the Pollo de Tandoori / Tandoori Chicken salad with mint yoghurt dressing.

Stuart told us that during June they are going to take a week off and the restaurant will be redecorated including the missing green doors. Javier has cleared a plot at the rear of the restaurant and will be growing their own vegetables in the future.
