Mirador del RíoSubmitted by Mike on Fri, 09/18/2009 - 15:08 |
Designed in 1973 by César Manrique, this cliff top hideaway in the North of Lanzarote offers spectacular views over the Río to the islands of La Graciosa, Alegranza, Montaña Clara, Roques del Este & Oeste. At the bottom of the 475m cliff are the abandoned salinas and across the water, you can see the harbour of Caleta de Sebo. For those not great with heights, the views can be seen from behind a huge circular window and for the fearless there is a terrace with telescope.
Open: 10:00 to 17:45 (special summer hours 10:00 to 19:00 15th July to 15th September)
Entry: €4.50 Adults €2.25 Children aged 7-12
Services: Bar café & gift shop
Directions: Take the LZ-1 from Arrecife to Örzola, at Arrieta take the LZ-201 and continue on LZ-203 to Ye where the Mirador del Río is signposted.
Recommendations: When exiting the Mirador take the narrow cliff top road along the coast for some spectacular views, it is narrow and the traffic is in both directions, you can’t stop along this section but further along as you follow the road away from the edge there is a cobbled car park on your right where you can park and walk to another viewing platform. From here you can take a goat path down to the coast, there is a spectacular beach Playa del Risco, but remember its a 650m climb back up!
