Reader Allan Lamb very kindly replied to my request for suggestions of good places to go while on the island. Here’s what he had to say about Charco del Palo, which is on the coast near Mala in the north of the island:

I would suggest going to the naturist village / sand dunes of Charco del Palo / Mala.

If you go on the bus from the main bus station in Arrecife, go to the first bus stop in Mala, opposite the Don Quixote bar/ tapas house. Go along the road to the right of the bar for about 4-5kms. about 30mins walk you end up in the village, straight on you reach the beach. in the centre there is a rock pool with landing stage and plenty of mixed bathing. facing the water go right about 100mts from there on - the guys are playing.

I had 2 days there and it was great, plenty of action even in December.

One word of caution though the bus only runs about every two hours each way. It is only 10 mins drive from Teguise worth the effort though.

The other aspect about Charco del Palo is that it is a full naturist village, so nudity is acceptable all around there.
